Story
Imagine having to flee your own home to save your life. It's a harrowing experience for adults, and even more so for children. Leaving behind everything you hold dear - friends, loved ones, cherished toys, and favorite books - can be utterly devastating.
Our mission is to reignite the joy of reading in the native language of every Ukrainian child who has been forced to escape the ravages of war. To achieve this, we've launched the Ukrainian-language children's magazine, "Chitay ta Gray" (Read and Play). The inaugural issue was published in December 2022 in Germany (1,000 copies) and in May 2023 in the UK (500 copies). It featured poems and stories penned by renowned children's writers, along with engaging games and activities designed to provide distraction, entertainment, and solace to young refugees. Our esteemed team of authors includes Vadim Levin, Tamara Kolomiets, Lina Kostenko, Kyrill Novikov, Polina Sorel, Leonid Soroka, Anastasia Shulga, and Igor Kalish.
In our efforts to make this project even more impactful, we've enlisted the talents of Ukrainian illustrators. Some of them are refugees themselves, while others have chosen to remain in Ukraine. By doing so, we not only provide a creative outlet but also extend our support to these artists.
This magazine is distributed free of charge to refugee centers, Ukrainian families with children, hospitals, and foster care centers across Europe and the UK. A digital copy can be downloaded from our website, read-play.com.
The warm feedback we received from our readers has inspired us to release our magazine regularly, at least twice a year. We've already begun working on the second issue.
To bring this vision to life and continue our mission, we are seeking your assistance and financial support. We require funds to cover the costs of our Ukrainian team's work, the publication process, and delivery fees.
Our funding goals are £4000 per year (£2000 per each issue).
Thank you for your interest in our project. Your support will help us make a positive impact in the lives of Ukrainian children facing unimaginable challenges.
