    Story

12th April, we welcomed our beautiful daughter into the world.14th April we got discharged home with what we thought was a perfect healthy baby ready to start family life. However we didn't quite make it to a full night at home.11pm that day, we were at home and had both of our parents over to see Amaya. We noticed that she didn't look right and definitely wasn't acting like a normal baby. She was sleeping and wouldn't wake up, wouldn't take any milk, just wasn't moving and her breathing was extremely rapid. We took her over to Trowbridge hospital for them to blue light us to RUH Bath as her sats were very low. After being in NICU over night and having multiple scans/tests etc we were told that our beautiful little girl had Congenital Heart Disease. Our world came crashing down before us, we didn't know what to think or do. After staying in NICU for a week, we were transferred to Bristol Children's Hospital. It was decided after being there for 3 weeks that Amaya was to have open heart surgery to fix the 3 holes in her heart. We had meetings with consultants, surgeons and multiple doctors and were told how this surgery was going to basically save her life. On 17th may Amaya went down to theatre for 6 1/2 hours to have her open heart surgery. Me and Ben were an absolute mess that day the support of our family and friends was so overwhelming,we wouldn't have been able to get through without them. After the surgery Amaya was then taken to intensive care for 2 days where she was on life support, she was eventually weened off of that to breath by herself. She was then moved back to the ward and she made incredible progress. 10 days later we were discharged home and our family life finally began.

Without the help and support of Bristol children's hospital, our baby wouldn't be here today. Ronald McDonald charity is a house for parents with sick children, free accommodation. I don't know what we would have done without it. Please help us in raising money for both places
