On 28th May 2017, I will be competing in the Manchester half marathon to raise whatever I can for Dogs4Rescue. It is a place very close to my heart and stumbled across it on 24/07/16 at Salford dog festival when my partner Kerri spotted a beautiful young lady, Maia, a triprawd street dog who had been rescued in Bulgaria after been hit by a train. She was nursed back to health at Animal Hope, Kazanlak in Bulgaria who had to amputate her back leg. She was then funded by Dogs4Rescue to be brought to Manchester for a start of a new journey of her life.
It was love at first sight for us both and Kerri had an amazing connection with Maia. She decided to initially foster her as already had 2 other dogs of her own. She never returned to the rescue and grows everyday with strength and confidence and has learnt to play with toys.
Without the amazing work Emma, Lou and their team of volunteers do Maia would not be in our lives today.
In 3 and a half years they have saved over 700 dogs with happy ever afters for over 600 dogs from Bulgaria, Romania, Cyprus along with dogs from UK rescues who are on death row like Staffies who they struggle to rehome.
There annual running costs for vet bills, food, costs for bringing dogs from other countries is well over £70000. If by me running/walking 13.1 miles helps just 1 dog like Maia live a happy loved life with no more pain and suffering it will be worth my short pain of doing this.
Please give whatever you can afford to help give love back and help Dogs4rescue keep their doors open.
This will be my first attempt at such a long distance and will be a huge challenge but the strength and courage shown by Maia and all the dogs who have been given a new chance of finding forever love will keep me going on the day.
