Story
Mel had her son at 32 weeks he weighed 5lbs 3oz and needed help to breath. At two days old he'd been taken off of the ventilator and Mel held him in her arms. That night Mel sat up in her hospital bed holding her jaw trying to cope with the pain that went through her body. She had chest pains and told a nurse. She tried to eat but soon rushed to the bathroom to be sick. It took a few hours for the pain to go from her chest; it came back a few days later . Her Doctor told her it was probably indigestion and within three days she was discharged. Mel's partner Kris was looking after their other two sons Reece and Riley. So Kris and Mel decided Mel should stay at her parents house as she still felt unwell. When Mel arrived her mum told her she looked unwell and to go back to hospital. Mel shrugged and said "it was just anxiety" but her mum was previously an A &E nurse and did not seemed conviced . Hours passed and she still felt unwell and tried to get settled on the sofa but the pain went through her arms. Mel tried to relax and stood up to exercise to get rid of what she thought was heartburn; she collapsed to the floor and her Mum came running in saying "she is having a heart attack " and told her dad to call for an ambulance. She was rushed to Lancanshire Cardiac Center at Blackpool Victoria Hospital . Where tests were carried out . She was hoocked up to a defibrillator and pumped with medication to stop blood clots forming. She was told by doctors she had suffered 3 heart attacks and explained that she had suffered spontaneous coronary artery dissection that could have been caused by hormonal changes through pregnancy. One of the layers in the artery wall had torn stopping blood flow and leading to a heart attack . Through it all her partner Kris held her hand telling her every thing will be ok. Mel knew she had to fight tooth and nail for her new born son who was still in hospital and her two other boys at home . Mel and all her family are now at home, but I learned only yesterday about how Mel will not be getting a transplant and I'm now running a 5k to raise money for her and her amazing family.
