On 14th of October I will be hauling myself around 7 miles of obstacle course at the Boss Hog event to raise money for Jay’s cause. At 6 years old he is battling cancer and so this is my very little part to help his family raise enough money to explore different treatment options not available on the NHS in the event that his second lot of treatments don‘t work. On 5th January 2017 Jay’s family were told that he had several cancerous tumours in his brain and spine (Medulloblastoma). After 7 months of hospital visits and treatment, Jay had his last round of chemo on the 29th July 2017 and on the 14th September 2017 Jay was given the all clear and told he was in remission. Within just 4 months, Jay relapsed and the tumours had grown back. As the chemotherapy didn’t work, the specialists suggested radiotherapy this time round. Jay has had radiotherapy this year and is being given a few rounds of chemo at present in the hope they will stay away for good this time. However, the Doctors have advised that should the cancer come back again, there is nothing more the NHS can do and Jay will be moved to palliative care, at just 6 years of age! His family are looking into trials for Jay but the ones that could potentially work for him are either not in the UK or not funded by the NHS.

As a result of this, family and friends are doing all sorts of fundraising events to raise £10,000. This will cover some of the costs should the dreaded c word return! Of course, should he be given the all clear for good this time, the funds will be split between two childhood cancer charities that have helped the family over the past two years.
