Story
Help me fundraise to support the schools and communities I will be volunteering with in Ghana!
I have an amazing opportunity to work in the schools in Ghana in August which will be through organisation Original Volunteers and I will be volunteering with schools and communities for 5 weeks. Many of the schools I will be working with are very scarce on resources and even the availability of teachers, and as I am there for 5 weeks I need to bring as much with me as I can! I hope to raise enough money to buy equipment for the schools (sports, leisure) and everyday items we take for granted for the communities as part of the outreach projects. The money I raise will be spent on these resources and other projects, anything over target will go towards me funding the project, so keep them coming! I am also open to any ideas on what else I can bring to the classroom. I am planning on buying both before and whilst I am out there (resources are available in the bigger towns).
Resources for schools: Crayons, coloured pencils, writing pencils, rubbers, pencil sharpeners, glue, sellotape, stickers, cheap notebooks, visual cards, maps, posters, story books, felt-tips, colouring books, coloured paper, word search books, sudoku. For arts and crafts: sugar paper, cellotape, string, glue sticks, felt tips, crayons and pairs of scissors etc. and I will be bringing recycled materials to make things with.
Sports equipment: footballs and repair kits/pump, volleyball net/balls, skipping ropes, blowing bubbles, bat and ball, tennis balls, rounders set.
Outside the classroom: underwear, shorts for boys, skirts for girls, girl’s bras and sanitary pads (apparently often girls do not go to school for lack of pads). Flip flops, rehydration sachets, painkillers, antiseptic cream and cheap reading glasses.
* OV: When there is a surplus of unused materials leftover when volunteers depart, day trips to a project or community in need are made to distribute them. * Resources for communities include water filters, clothes, shoes, tools and building materials etc.
If you have anything to donate you can post them to me and send it to this address: PO Box 256, Mpraeso-Kwahu, Ghana
Thank you!!
