Story
I am raising funds to enable me to travel to South Africa where I will carry out voluntary work at the Shamwari Game Reserve. This annual expedition sends a group of volunteers from Kesgrave Sixth Form to assist the game reserve in conserving a vanishing way of life. Shamwari Game Reserve is situated in the Eastern Cape,, an area that was historically rich in wildlife. Many species were eradicated by means of hunting or indiscriminate farming practices. During the past twenty five years the game reserve has worked to increase the population of wild animal species and species extinct to the region were reintroduced. They also work to improve the lives communities living in and around the reserve through education and work opportunities.
I am passionate about voluntary work both with animal conservation and with local communities.. After taking my A Levels I intend to begin training for a career in zoology and this experience will be invaluable in helping me achieve my goal.
This year I helped raise money and designed community projects for the local charity 4YP (For Young People). For the second year running, I will also be singing in a charity concert to raise money for local charity, Fresh Start - new beginnings.
Amongst other fund raising activities, this month I will be swimming a mile to raise money for the expedition and am looking for people/companies to sponsor me. All donations would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks!
Becky
