Weʼve raised £3,720 to Rebuild the Brechin Brakevan!

    Brechin, Angus, United Kingdom
Funded on Saturday, 7th May 2016

    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

    Story

We are an entirely volunteer run heritage railway based in Brechin, Angus. Every penny we make through operating our trains goes back into the upkeep of the railway.

Between 10pm and 11pm on Wednesday 6th April 2016, our beloved and highly popular LMS brakevan was subject to an arson attack. After an hour long battle with the flames, the fire was finally extinguished. We would like to thank the local Police and Fire Services for their assistance with this. Unfortunately, the damage had already been done, with the body of the vehicle being completely destroyed.

On the morning of Thursday 7th April, news of this devastating event was posted to our Facebook page. We were surprised and heartened by the resounding response and all of the kind words of support given to us from the community.

We have set up this campaign in response to the many kind offers of donations and support from the members of the public. We estimate that the total cost of rebuilding this historic brakevan will be between £20,000 and £25,000. However, an initial fundraising goal of £5000 has been set to help contribute towards the costs of the restoration work.

During the winter of 2014, five of our hard working and dedicated volunteers spent four months painstakingly restoring this brakevan to working condition. With all our hard work now gone, we are all at a loss and morale between the volunteers has seen a significant drop.

Wow! Big thank you to Eddie and Helen Clark of Houston, Texas for donating a whopping £1000 to our appeal, as well as the Brechin Community Cinema Project for their generous donation of £250. We really appreciate all the support we have been receiving from the community!

Heart-breaking to see such hard work destroyed, but I hope the team can find the resolve to start anew.
