Story

On the 5th of July 2025 Huw Jones will be attempting to break the 8-hour single stand British ewe shearing record which currently stands at 539, a record set by Martin Howlett.

Back in July 2023 Huw achieved one of his goals in shearing a personal best of 704 Welsh ewes in 9 hours, this was his stepping stone to push himself to attempt a British shearing record. Huw has just arrived back after his 6th season in New Zealand, he has completed in many show shearing competitions throughout the grades making numerous finals and a few wins along the way, he also competes in the speed shearing competitions which he enjoys at the end of the main shearing season in the UK and last year had 3 open wins out of 3 finals made.

The event will be taking place at Hendreseifion Farm, Machynlleth SY20 8QQ on locally bred breeding ewes. Staging this event is going to involve a huge amount of work and effort.

Huw is also aiming to raise money for 2 charities the Wales air ambulance a charity very close to Huw’s family and also our local mountain rescue in Aberdyfi.
