    Story

Red Box Project is a grassroots community initiative, which supports all young women in the Period Poverty era, providing them with free sanitary protection throughout their period. There are volunteer led projects effectively running across UK and Wales. However, this is the first project to open in North Northumberland with the aim of expanding across the Amble, Alnwick and Berwick area. We place constantly stocked Red Boxes of sanitary wear in schools for young women to access, aiming to reach those who may not be able to afford these vital items.

We want to put an end to Period Poverty, so that no young woman is forced to lose out on education because of her period. No more tearful panics in the loo. No wadded up toilet roll. No missed lessons or staying at home. No anxious embarrassment. We believe that all women should be provided with the assurance that their 'time of the month' is perfectly normal and that the comfort that sanitary protection provides is vital.

The project is a simple but effective scheme to provide girls with free sanitary protection if they cannot afford or are too embarrassed to buy their own. Every school that signs up to the free scheme receives a red box filled with sanitary items donated by the community. The female pupils of that school can access this box at any time and take from it a prepared brown paper bag filled with sanitary items - providing them with the reassurance that they will be protected throughout their menstrual cycle. We work with the community to stock and ensure that no box goes empty!

I am a local volunteer coordinator and I kindly ask for your help to raise funds to get the project up and running. I first need to invest in red boxes, posters and of course sanitary products. Every single donation gives the young women of Northumberland a safe period without the expense of their education.

I thank you for your support & donation!
