Story

The Red Box Project aims to supports disadvantaged girls by tackling period poverty, with the aim of helping them stay in school. We work to quietly ensure that no young woman misses her education or suffers embarrassment because she has her period.

The Red Box Project gives young women in need - whether for financial or social reasons - the reassurance of enough sanitary pads for their entire period plus a couple for next time. This is what makes it special.

We sponsor and stock a red box filled with sanitary towels and spare pants that is kept in schools, available for a young woman in need of sanitary items to ask for the red box and take what she needs, with plain bags included for full discretion.

No tearful panics in the toilet. No wadded up toilet roll or socks used as sanitary products. No anxious embarrassment. No missed lessons or staying home. Just an informal group of friends, colleagues and neighbours who sponsor a red box for a school in Merthyr, supplying sanitary towels and underwear to the box to make sure it is stocked at all times, for all young women.

Backed up by some light fundraising, this is a simple, affordable, and effective way to work together to solve a straight forward problem.

This is a very simple no frills project funded entirely by community kindness, because we believe that a young woman’s education shapes her future, and should never be compromised.

We hope that it helps.
