Story

This page is to allow those who are not able to attend the Red Earth Fund Raising Day a chance to contribute to this amazing cause. Please see below for details of the day and why it so important to many families across the country.

Red Earth are holding a special fund raising day which will see all takings and proceeds donated to the wonderful Orthopedic Department at Perth Royal Infirmary.

Struan Fleming (main picture), who is the 6 month old son of salon owner Vaila Fleming, was born with fixed talipes in both feet. Talipes, also known as clubfoot, affects one in every thousand babies and, in the more severe cases, the baby's feet are born with a deformity that requires very skilled orthopedic care in order to correct.

Talipes is now mainly treated via the Ponsetti method which requires weeks of correctional casting followed by years of wearing special boots in order to make sure the feet are properly positioned to allow for normal healthy growth in later years. This treatment has had an incredible amount of success and, in most cases, will ensure the child grows up feeling no ill effects of their original condition.

Struan was particularly lucky to have the support and expertise of those who work in the orthopedic department at Perth Royal Infirmary, especially Mr MacLean. Not only do they provide the best care possible for the children, they also provide unwavering advice and support to the parents.

Struan is well on his way to recovery having been through the casting stage and is now wearing the special boots (pictured).

Please help us to give something back to this wonderful group of individuals who do so much good work for little people like Struan.
