You are not listening! Are you?

    Does this sound familiar?

In school, at home in the community all young people say that adults don’t listen, they don’t trust adults, in fact some of them go as far as hating those adults who care for them. This situation can be debilitating for children and young peoples’ mental health and frustrating for parents, carers and professionals. The following worsening statistics could explain why.

In 2018, I carried out a research on teenagers’ perspectives about mental health services and found that young people are indeed experts in matters that concern them. They wanted professionals, parents and carers to involve them in decision making and in the implementation of those decisions. This could improve services for young people, empower and equip them to look after their wellbeing.

Teenage survival guide will empower groups of young people between the ages of 11 and 18 to create wellbeing guides and kits that work for them. Face to face and online young people will discuss day to day challenges that they face when dealing issues that life throws at them. From peer pressure, detentions, bullying, exams, loss, separation, overuse of social media, relationship issues, future career, caring for loved ones, money management, drugs, alcohol, identity…

TSG will encourage participants to examine difficult emotions and their impact on their mental health. They will look at helpful tips which will help them to create wellbeing guides/kits.
