Weʼve raised £8,480 to Send a homeless Chadian disabled mother and her disabled daughter to a care facility in Cameroon

Funded on Sunday, 17th February 2019

    Story

I met this young woman, probably late teen or early tween years- on a trip to Chad. Remadji is homeless with her child and crashes wherever tiredness finds her, right on the bare ground, without any kind of anything between her body and the floor. She often goes around naked or in rags; same for her child. They eat from dumps and wander all day long in the village. The child is also disabled (she’s almost 3 years but can’t sit up, crawl, talk or use limbs).

I couldn’t find any facilities in Chad to welcome her and her child, given their medical needs. But we were able to locate a convent (sisters of charity) in Ethiopia where nuns are willing to care for them if they can get there.

Please help raise funds to fly them from Chad to Ethiopia!

    Heartfelt thanks for your generosity!

Ousmal died 4 days ago in the arms of her mother, Remadji, in their village. Altos informed me that she may have succumbed to complications or relapse of malnutrition. I am deeply sorry we have not been able to save her, but I am very grateful for all the support you've shown to her cause. I will go ahead and shut down the fundraising page at this time but please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Gratefully yours, Evelyne

Dear Supporters: I wanted to send you a quick update: Ousmal has not gone back to the center in Cameroon yet because I am struggling to collect enough funds and garner continued support on her behalf. But most importantly, there are growing insecurities in the Northern Cameroon due to upcoming elections. We've found it advisable with Altos to keep Ousmal in Chad until things quiet down and that we collect enough money to send her back for therapy. She will be returned to the village with her mom for now. I will keep you posted, but she is well.
