Story

This September I'm taking part in Cycle 300, a challenge to cycle 300 miles across the month of September. I'll be doing this on an exercise bike and need to average 10 miles a day so I'll be sharing regular progress updates. All the funds raised will be split between cancer charities, including Cancer Research UK.

This challenge had been appearing on my newsfeed over a few months and then appeared again the day after my Dad had been diagnosed with cancer and it seemed like the right thing to do. Little did I know when I signed up for it that just 4 short weeks later, before this challenge even began, we would lose him.

He was diagnosed with a cancer called Mucinous Carcinoma, a particular aggressive form of cancer that often isn't found until the late stages and that doesn't respond well to treatment, even palliative treatment. They weren't wrong when they called it aggressive, we saw such a rapid deterioration that it was hard to even believe. In 2 weeks he went from being able to sit on the floor and build a lego house with my girls to needing help to walk even a short distance. For him there was no treatment. Not a single option that was considered a possible hope for him. I look forward to the day when no one ever hears those words again. Where there is always hope. So this is me, doing what little I can, to help make that happen.

Anyone who knows me knows that this really isn't going to be an easy challenge for me but I'm determined to do it just to make my little bit of difference to one of the worst things in the world. I don't expect this challenge and any funds that I raise to change the world but I want to be a part, a very small part, of reaching a day where no other family has to face the pain we are going through. Where no other person has to face the pain and devastation that cancer causes. So if you can, please consider donating to help make that day not so far away.
