Story

Ruth passed away at 41 years old on the 10th June 2021, after a 5 year battle with ovarian cancer. She died peacefully at home with Darren by her side.

In February of this year, when it became apparent Ruth needed more specialist, palliative care we were advised to get her a bed at Teesside hospice. Unfortunately, no one there was trained in administering her nutritional feeds and therefore this was not an option to us.

We managed to get a bed at Brotton hospital, and although Ruth received amazing care, there was the same issue of no one being trained to administer this, meaning her husband had to continue. When she returned home towards the end this was still the case.

We are fiercely passionate that we need something to support high quality end of life care in East Cleveland to prevent future families having to deal with the same obstacles that we did. This would enable families to have the choice of hospice or home care without having to make sacrifices in order to do this.

Every penny raised will be put towards our fight to create these facilities in the local area. This is something Ruth would be so proud to be part of, and a real legacy to her and her boys.
