Weʼve raised £2,580 to Repair the #1stHampdenMural, which was badly vandalised. We want to restore it to it's original brilliance and protect it for the future.

Funded on Thursday, 26th March 2020

    Story

On Monday evening, we were alerted to disappointing news, Stewart Todd posted a picture and a headline on Twitter:

'Seriously, what is wrong with folk? Why would anyone do this?? @Hampdeners

The picture revealed our world famous #1stHampdenMural, showcasing the world's first purposefully built international football stadium and one of Scotland's greatest victories, had been seriously vandalised.

There has been a huge amount of hard work gone in to researching, designing, planning and producing this mural not to mention the help received from so many wonderful people from far and wide that contributed to realise the dream, which was completed in September 2019.#1stHampdenMural

This mural belongs to everyone, all those involved in creating it, to the local community, to Glasgow, to Scotland and to the amazing sporting history of this site.

This new crowdfunding page has been setup to raise money for the restoration and fund security measures that will better protect the mural from vandals. In truth the more money we raise the better protected it will and your support will bring it back to its original best.

Our original target was based on the year of the mural and to show the significance of this famous fixture. In parallel, we have been reviewing the costs of restoration and the protection measures that we will need to put in place. Based on this, we have changed the target to £5,000. We have had donations ranging from £3 to £500. All are hugely generous and we are thankful for the amazing support, which has been shown by everyone, including our shout out on Off The Ball. Please share around the page as we head to the next target. Thank You.

      Update from the Page owner

We have hit £1882. Amazing! This mural is dedicated to the match that proclaimed Scotland's dominance as the Kings of the Footballing World. Over the last 16 days we have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support to our mission. We have extended our crowdfunding mission until the 26th March to ensure that we raise as much as possible to protect it from mindless vandals. Please share it around. The mural is just one brick in our wall to #Restore1stHampden. Thank you to all! Cheers Hampden Collection Team
