Story

Disappointingly one of our community public access defibrillators (CPAD's) has been vandalised. We are now raising funds to increase the security of five of the twelve cabinets in Knaresborough. These are potentially vulnerable so we want them to be as safe as possible, so that they are always in a Rescue-Ready state for use 24/7/365.

SUSPECT CARDIAC ARREST?

Dial 999 & ask for an Ambulance, the call handler will stay on the phone and guide you. If you don't know where your nearest defibrillator is, they will direct you to the nearest one.

All our Restart Yorkshire CPAD's are registered with Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

You DO NOT require any prior training to successfully use a defibrillator.

If you know where the CPAD is, tell the Ambulance call handler the location stated on the cabinet door, they will give you the entry code to open the cabinet, take the defibrillator out, then close the door. Take the defibrillator to the casualty, open the case and press the power button. Stay calm and follow the defibrillator voice prompts.

It will only shock if the casualty's heart requires shocking - you cannot do any harm using it. If there are other bystanders looking on, make use of them, get them to help you. There is a foil packet with scissors, wipe, razor & a face mask for mouth to mouth. The electrode pads to stick on the casualty's bare chest are in a packet on the back of the defibrillator. You will need to keep following the instructions until Emergency services arrive.

Make a difference and just do your very best.
