Story

Steph and his disabled daughter Chloe, Team Ladybugs are doing a 10K corridor walk, Leicester 10K and the Cambridge Half Marathon to raise money to buy and donate a sleeper chair to the Hospital!!

Not the Best Start to 2025

Chloe was taken into the George Elliott Hospital on the 4th of January 2025, it became clear that she had a number of issues and after a night in Resus and being moved to Majors, Chloe was moved to a ward. Here we had a lot of firsts. It was the first time Chloe had been in hospital since she turned 18 years old. She was placed on her first adult ward, and it was obvious that the ward hadn’t really got the facilities to accommodate Chloe and a family member.

Eventually we moved to Melly Ward into a side room, which was so much better for Chloe. They also procured a fold up bed to make it possible for the parent staying with Choe to get at least try and get some rest and sleep.

We have to say that most of the staff tried extremely hard to help us care for Chloe in this new situation.

We looked at ways in which we could help other families faced with this situation where it is essential that they stayed with there loved one to help with communication and familiarisation. After some research we found a superb chair/bed, not a recliner chair. It is a chair that turns into a single narrow bed and can be placed at the side of your loved one’s bed.

Given all the help and support we received we felt we would like to raise enough money to buy one of these special chair beds for Melly Ward.

The cost is £1,500 and we are looking to do a fund-raising event to help us buy a chair bed. If we were to raise more, we would love to buy more chair beds for other wards.

Thank you so much for taking an interest in our story.

Kind Regards

Steph and Chloe
