Rhydycroesau woodland is mainly conifer but with an increasing proportion of broadleaf woodland, and a growing biodiversity. There are many fine hardwood trees of particular antiquity and interest. Including one of the highest altitude wild service tree in the country and a bonsai elm growing in the cliff!

Cynynion Timber, owners of the woodland, is a family-run enterprise based on sustainable principles. Providing a valuable local source of fresh sawn timber to the community and other local businesses, whilst aiming for the smallest carbon footprint possible so the environment is not harmed any more than is necessary.

They opened the wood up to the public some years ago by way of a network of permissive waymarked trails, seating, a birdhide and even it's own compost toilets! The sights and sounds are enjoyed by an increasing number of visitors and geocachers from around the globe.

Unfortunately due to rising public liability insurance and a decreased grant to help with maintenance of the pathways, the land owners may no longer be able to pay this fee from the partnerships account. Rather than shut the well established and enjoyed footpaths in order to aid the business, maybe kind donations from people in the community and other businesses that use the woodland regularly would like to help?
