I've raised £10000 to set up a scholarship program for 1 student to start their flying career at Devon & Somerset Flight Training in memory of Richard Breakspear

“When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return"
Our goal at Devon & Somerset Flight Training alongside Richard's family is to give the dream of flight to one lucky student through a new Scholarship Program we are looking to start in memory of our much loved and well know Operations Manager Richard Breakspear.
Richard was so well know across the whole flying community not only in Devon and the surrounding Counties but throughout the UK. As a keen flying instructor and Radiotelephony expert it is these skills we want to be home grown at Devon & Somerset Flight Training through this Scholarship.
Our plan would be for this to develop into an annual Scholarship Program, but for now we are asking for the kind support of all those who knew Richard Breakspear to help support the launch of a Scholarship Program in 2021; by funding the course of 1 student to be able to take the LAPL -'Light Aircraft Pilot's License', something Richard was a very keen advocate of.
We plan to open the entry for students to apply for such a Scholarship in the Autumn of 2021 in remembrance of Richard. We will be looking for applicants who potentially without such support would not be able to obtain such a licence and therefore miss out on both the magic of flying and the start of an exciting career.
The Scholarship would see the winning applicant not only receive a complete LAPL course with 30 hours of flying and ground school, plus course material and ground exams, but also Pooley's study equipment and the flight test.
We believe this to be an excellent way to remember Richard in allowing all his experience, skill and general love for General Aviation to continue year after year through what this Scholarship would stand for and promote.
Additional funding raised above the needs of a LAPL course and students needs would go towards both a Defibrillator and remembrance plaque in Richards name to be located at Dunkeswell Airfield.
This is fully supported by Richard's Family.
Thank you for your very kind support for remembering Richard with us.
