Story

Carl is now 50 years old. He was born with deformed bones from the waist down and is wheelchair confined for the entirety of his life. Carl attended the Thomas wolseley Special School in Ipswich and was a keen member of the school band. Of the many times I visited him when he was playing at the school there was hardly a dry eye in the house including mine! Carl lives independently in a disabled adapted council bungalow in a quiet Suffolk village.. He was often featured in the papers as a young lad due to his amazing abilities to do handstands and other athletic things. He won many wheelchair races at school, and even competed in wheelchair races in Germany. His music ability with the guitar was outstanding and even today he still plays the guitar, in fact had he been inclined there is little doubt in my mind that he could have gone on to bigger things in life, but Carl is a modest person who prefers the plain and simple life. Carl drives an old 2002 ford that he purchased on HP. It came with the cost of struggling to pay his bills whilst paying for the car. The car itself is Automatic and has hand controls fitted that also came with a high cost! What Carl needs is an adapted vehicle that has a tail lift that comes down so that he could push himself straight into the vehicle in his wheelchair, this would give him his independence as at the moment he needs someone with him to lift his wheelchair in and out of his car. Carls early days were quite difficult. Carls Dad passed away suddenly when Carl was 14 years old and his mother worked hard to ensure that he could live his life as fully as he could. An easy access vehicle would go a long way to making his life just that little bit easier, although if the target is not reached he may be able to buy an automatic estate car with hand controls that will be easier to accommodate his wheelchair. He is one of the most inspirational people I have ever known and never complains, he just gets on with it and displays great courage.
