Story
The Louth Flood of 1920 devastated this small market town. Twenty three people lost their lives, including 6 children and over 800 people were made homeless. Many others suffered in different ways through the loss of family, friends and livelihoods. There is a memorial to those who died in the cemetery on the outskirts of Louth but nothing in the town centre where the impact of the flood was greatest. On behalf of the Louth Museum I wish to raise the funds to mark the centenary of the flood to erect a plaque or possibly more than one along the course of the River Ludd which carried the flood water through the town. Not only will this be a fitting tribute to those affected but will serve as an educational marker for years to come and would be a timely reminder of the problems flooding can cause. We have already raised £320 through other donations. Please help us to mark this important event in our history.
