Story
My son, Liam is 19 years old. For my wife and I, he is our whole life. I have spent the past 20 years working as a firefighter only to care for my family. I have saved every single pence I could to ensure that I can pay for his education and that he can have a better future than the one my wife and I had. My wife, Elizabeth, also waits tables and works overtime usually to make sure we can give him the best life we could; after all, he is our first and only child.
Liam proved to be a very special and spectacular boy since very young age. When he was in primary school, all his teachers told me that he is an extra-ordinary child. He excelled at almost every single thing I can think of – art, music, sports, academically. Since then, I stopped smoking and his mom and I sacrificed everything in life to be able to develop his skills to the furthest of our ability.
Last year, when he turned 18, he got an internship at EA Games headquarters in California. His mother and I paid a huge amount of what we had saved up to cover up the costs of the airplane tickets, shared apartment, etc. Nonetheless, he over-performed and they gave him a certificate of recognition and told him they will be waiting for him next summer for another internship. They were so interested in Liam that his manager called me to tell me how I did a great job in raising him and how he is so special.
However, and unfortunately, three days ago on 23rd July 2018, he got a severe back injury from falling harshly down the stairs. His friend Jack called us and we immediately took him to the hospital. After numerous check-ups and examinations, they told us that he needs to remove the C3, C4, and C5 because they experienced immense tissue and nerve damage. Liam’s only hope is this operation/ procedure (Anterior Cervical Corpectomy Spine Surgery) in order to remove the damaged bones with a new titanium replacement (also known as - Anterior vertebral body replacement with a titanium implant of adjustable height). The problem that this operation is extremely costly – 46,000 GBP. In addition, we need to pay for the hospital bed, intensive care unit, nurses and other hospital costs.
Please give Liam another chance to live, and give his mom and I another chance to live with him and for him. No words can never be enough to show how much appreciation we have for your donations and your care and no matter how much we thank you, it will never ever be enough.
