I've raised £1000 to benefit the amazing efforts of all the team at the Combined Day Unit at Derby Royal Hospital in their ongoing battle to treat cancer.

28tth Decemberack in June 2019 I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Bowel Cancer. I knew next to nothing about cancer prior to then. Like so many of us, I felt at 38 years old that cancer was a problem that affected other people. I was exercising regularly and in good health, I didn't smoke or drink any more than my chums. Surely, I was most unlikely to be affected, or so I thought.
12 months later, after a major operation and a whole heap of Chemotherapy, I'd like to think that I'm on the road to recovery. Cancer will always cast a shadow over my life, I will never escape it's threat.
However, the NHS played an amazing part in getting me to where I am today. Back at work, starting to exercise again, spending time with my family and believe it or not enjoying life!
When my Chemotherapy ended in March due to COVID-19 I could not jog to the end of my road without needing to stop. In November this year I'm going to complete the Derby Half Marathon in aid of the wonderful team at the Royal Derby Hospital Combined Day Unit. Aside from my family, friends and colleagues every single member of staff within the Combined Day Unit kept me focused, reminded me that life must go on and cared for me with dignity and sensitivity.
This is my way of saying thank you...
