    Story

We had to rush Scooby, whom we rescued from the Dogs Trust 6 years ago, to Parkvets in Sidcup on thursday 24th May at 4am as he was trying to vomit and could not. In front of my eyes he developed bloat and this is such a serious condition we had only an hour to act before he woul have died..

Major surgery for Gastric Torsion/bloat followed and after a few days recovering in hospital he had to have another major operation due to peritinitis and necrosis that developed due to the Gastric Torsion. Again it was touch and go. Thankfully he survived but remains in critical condition in hospital and major drugs are being administered inteaveniously to aid his recovery.

Partvets are simply superb in what they do. They have staff on duty 24 hours a day and their hospital is in house so they do all the surgery. Without their speedy and skillful work by dedicated staff who are passionate in what they do and we would have lost Scooby.

Being sensible dog owners we are insured to the sum of £4000 but the bill so far is £5289.77 Each day is costing £400 due to the expensive drugs having to be used to help him recover and ensure no further surgery is required.

We are not normally people that would ask for help, we‘d rather give than take, but being on a limited works pension and my wife Carol‘s small amount of disabilty support from the state. We have very little savings to fund the every increasing costs.

We know there are more deserving charity cases around but every penny donated will be used to pay the vets bill. We are not reckless and waste money, we can’t afford too be so this is a genuine appeal for a little support.

We want to get Scooby home where he belongs. Ever since we rescued him from the Dogs Trust 6 years ago he has been our lifeline in as much as he helps my wife with her mental health issues and without him we are totally lost.

Thank you for reading this, we appriciate your help.

Hopefully we have turned the corner. One more check up to do and maybe the all clear will be given. We are still watching him like a hawk in case he has a relapse, or we think we see symptoms are starting to show. Thanks to all and everyone for the support shown to us during the stressful time.

Scooby has returned home after a week in hospital and two major operations to save his life. He is walking around in the back garden to build his strength up and eating well. Still on medication and a return visit to the vets is on Tuesday. Scooby was one of the lucky ones. Bloat or Gastric Torsion is a nasty condition. Emily our vet said it can appear in as a little as 30 minutes. So dog owners really need to be aware of the symptoms. Thanks for the support so fare, we appriciate it very much.
