I'm raising £10000 to give Richard Rowe easy access to a shower and bedroom after paraplegia in a motorbike accident

Story

Richard has been an advanced motorcyclist for years, racing as an amateur at the Isle of Man Grand Prix in 2011 and competing in enduro, road race, long-distance trials, cross-country rallies as well as completing advanced motorcycle training. All this was done on a shoestring over many years and led to no injuries.

In July 2023, Richard was helping out on a motorbike tour through the French Alps when he was in collision with a car and thrown onto a brick wall resulting in complete paralysis below the ribs. There is no prospect of recovery and none so far, of compensation, as he does not remember the accident and there were no independent witnesses. He can no longer work as a lorry driver or carry out the maintenance for our business and is currently struggling to access the first floor and bathroom of our small, semi-detached house in Leamington. We need to extend to build a wetroom and install a through-floor lift to allow him easy access to our home, level the thresholds and change the flooring and doorways to accommodate a wheelchair. We expect this to cost in the region of £150,000. In addition, we need to adapt his vehicle for access and driving and pay for physiotherapy, counselling and medicines, none of which is available to him free of charge on the NHS. We have been very lucky to secure funding for a decent wheelchair and this will provide more freedom outdoors. Now, we need to adapt our home.

Any donations are greatly appreciated. We thank our friends, family and the motorbike community for their phenomenal support.
