Story

Richmondshire Museum is a local history museum that showcases the heritage of Richmondshire. We are here to share the story of our wonderful town and surrounding area through artefacts, most of which have been lovingly donated by the people at the heart of those stories. We are a volunteer led charity that relies on our community for support both financial and to take on all the roles so we can open our doors to both locals and visitors alike. The pandemic has hit the arts hard, despite this we are striving to open this summer better than ever. We have been working hard to make the most of our spaces and being new stories to life and then we hit a huge setback; a leak! Water is pouring in through our front entrance area. The place in which our volunteers sit to welcome our visitors and the place in which we have our shop. The old nature of the building means that we have many old aspects such as a flat lead roof that now has seen better days. We have had no income last year and we are facing a reduced season this year as well, which means that funds are stretched to the limit. We would be so very grateful of anything you can spare so we can continue to keep local heritage alive and share it with generations to come. As in the words of Marcus Garvey:
" A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots".
