    Story

    What has happened?

The beautiful island of Lombok in Indonesia was hit by a series of devastating earthquakes earlier this year resulting in the infrastructure of Northern Lombok being completely demolished and a heartbreaking 417,000 people being displaced from their homes and jobs.

Rickshaw Travel have strong connections with Lombok and we have already donated money to buy tarpaulins and water tanks for emergency accommodation. The island is now past the emergency state and moving towards long-term rebuilding and we want to help. Our connections with our local partners will ensure that every penny raised will go directly towards buying the building materials. We thought that helping people rebuild their lives and have a roof over their heads would be the most impactful project for us to support.

Rickshaw's aim is to raise £5,000 to provide homes for 20 families. A bamboo house costs £500 to build and will house 2 families. A roof and walls both cost £175; doors and windows costs £75 as does a set of foundations.

After the earthquake happened, our house was destroyed, we all now live in a shelter house with other people. All the people or guides lost their jobs because no tourists want to come here. We have no job now, a lot of us need to get income. We may have no choice but to work as a maid in Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. We've lost our house and jobs at the same time.

Any amount - however big or small - will make a direct difference. Please donate!
