Radio still remains an excellent way to convey maximum information on (rights and responsibilities, health, education etc) to the population in Uganda where oral tradition is important and radio being the most accessible medium.
A corner stone that makes a radio to affect the lives of the community is when it knows ever-evolving interests from the audience, and integrate them (needs and wants) in the programming yet, this is still a big gap that needs to be filled to ensure that the would-be-beneficiaries (community) benefits from the radio programming.
I continue to witness information gaps as most radios do not engage/air audience needs and preferences and would like to get into community oriented broadcasting and our service will broaden the range of local services provided in this area or locality and be of a nature or have a content distinct from that of any local broadcast services already operating in this area and services provided primarily for the good of members of the public/communities and in order to deliver social gain.
The community radio will aim at delivering programmes with strong attachment on social and economic goals to community.
Target audience:
The radio station will provide content that suits the most people, the primary focus will be the age bracket between 8 – 45 years.
Programming:
The radio station will have engaging, informative, educative and entertaining programmes on all walks of life. The content will constitute of socio-economic issues that will meet the needs of the target audience/community.
Conclusion:
However, lack of radio equipment remains the major to make this project happen. I believe that with generous from people who share the same opinion that with modest radio equipment, so much more can be done to improve the socio-economic well being of the community. The community can benefit immensely from this radio project.
