Story
Martin, Helen, Jaime and I are cycling 100KM in memory of our dear friend Jan Van Roy from Belgium, who sadly lost his battle with brain cancer this year.
We are cycling the Etapé Loch Ness, which starts and finishes in Inverness, Scotland, following a stunning route around Loch Ness. The event is poignant as Jan and his wife Anne came over to Scotland in 2017 to complete this event.
We have known Jan and his family for over 20 years. He worked with my Uncle Norman (Martin's Dad) and when Norman was tragically killed in 1998 our family set up a memorial golf tournament in Longniddry, Scotland. Jan came over to the first one, then made sure it was the first date in his diary and came over from Belgium every year to play.
Jan was a keen cyclist, runner and fundraiser, raising lots of money for charity every year during his cycling challenges and several marathons that he ran. He inspired me to get into cycling and running.
He was only 60 years old When he died. Coincidentally our cycle takes place on what would have been his 61st birthday.
We are raising cash for Prof Clements team who looked after Jan, hoping to further their collaborative research into brain cancers. More information can be found at Leuven Cancer Institute.
Wish us luck and please donate!
