Weʼve raised £1,785 to fund St Peters C Of E Infant School, by climbing VERY high (on a bike)

    Story

VIRTUAL MONT BLANC CHALLENGE... ONE MAN & HIS BIKE; ONE HILL; ONE DAY; x40 ASCENTS; 4,808 M (15,777 FT) OF CLIMBING; 182 KM RIDING DISTANCE; AND 12 HRS ESTIMATED RIDING TIME.

St Peter's C Of E Infant School in Tandridge Village (Surrey) is an incredible little state-funded village infant school.

The “Friends” of St Peter’s (FOSP) is the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of St Peter’s School. It was formed to support the school in fundraising and awareness campaigns and relies entirely on the generous support and time given by parents and carers of the children of St Peters.

FOSP is currently trying to raise additional funds to purchase items such as waterproof all-in-one suits for every child; Google Chromebook tablets; Bee-Bot programmable robots; general class resources, arts and crafts etc.

To assist with the school’s fund raising, I’ve decided to take on my hardest biking challenge to date… On Wednesday, 8th September, 2021, I’ll be attempting to solo climb the equivalent height of Mont Blanc (4,808 m / 15,777 ft) on Zig Zag Road, Box Hill, Surrey Hills (AONB), UK.

To put this challenge into perspective, there wasn’t a single mountain stage in the 2021 Tour de France that had a total elevation gain close to (or above) this targeted total climbing height.

Box Hill is one of the most iconic cycle climbs in Britain and located in the Surrey Hills' Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Simon Warren (author of 100 Greatest Cycling Climbs) refers to Box Hill as “The Alpe d’Huez of the South-East” [England].

Zig Zag Road in Box hill was included in the 2012 Olympic Road Race (x9 ascents). The Great Britain team that competed in those Olympics was the greatest Olympic road racing team ever (the five riders from Great Britain on that July 28, 2012 day were Sir Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome, Mark Cavendish, David Millar and Ian Stannard).

IN ADVANCE, THANK FROM ME AND A MASSIVE THANK YOU FROM ALL AT ST PETER'S SCHOOL, FOR WHATEVER YOU CAN SPARE.

Special thanks to Ben Austen at BFR Physio (bfrphysio.com) for getting my body in the right shape (following my massive leg surgery only 1 year ago) to be able to attempt something like this.
