Story

Ride4Izzy

We, three middle aged slightly overweight cyclists from Swindon are going to ride from Swindon to the Wirral in one day (approx. 180 miles) to raise money to build a sensory space for Izzy and create a safe, therapeutic, stimulating yet relaxing area which will expand her world outside and she can enjoy. This will include space for her swing and trampoline, raised beds with scented and textural plants, a music wall and maybe eventually a heated hydrotherapy pool, this is something that is essential to help improve her muscle tone. It will also be a place they can relax in and enjoy as a family.

For those who don’t know Izzy, she was born with a very rare genetic condition that is untreatable. She is unable to do anything for herself and requires 24 hour care, she moves only a little and is unable to walk. She breathes through a tracheostomy and feeds through a tube in her tummy as she is unable to swallow. She can’t make sound or communicate, her hearing is very good but her eyesight is poor.

Much to her parents delight two years ago Izzy finally started to smile 😊. She began special school last September and it’s opened up a whole new world for her which she absolutely loves. She gets great pleasure from being moved around, light and sound stimulation, being outdoors, going in water and experiencing lots of new things.

Matt and Sarah work so hard to provide and care for Izzy, please give as much or as little as you can, every penny helps!!! Thank you!
