Story

It is our great pleasure to announce that British Embassy Riga team will be taking part in one of the greatest events in Riga. AGAIN!

In 2017, we used Lattelecom Riga Marathon to raise awareness to two causes close to our hearts - Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award and Zvannieki Home. With our perseverance, commitment and most importantly - your generosity, we raised the total of € 2000 and proudly passed it on to the Zvannieki Home to support the welfare of children with social, health, educational and emotional needs.

In the spirit of celebrating the success of last year and creating new traditions, we are looking forward to May 20th 2018 when 18 members of our team and their families will be participating in the Lattelecom Riga Marathon 2018. We will use this occasion to bring awareness to a non-government, privately funded organization that operates an alternative family home to support children in need. Zvannieki Team welcomes children that have been abused and removed from their families and works very hard to build a renewed sense of home, family and security for these children. For more information, please visit Zvannieki Home at https://www.zvannieki.lv/about-zvannieki/?lang=en.

Additionally the British Embassy Riga is proud to raise awareness of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Latvia which is a non-formal education platform that uses a personal challenge scheme to equip young people with experiences that help them to become committed, responsible and fulfilled citizens. This year’s team consists of 18 runners, all running a variety of distances:

Alex Baxter is running the full marathon (42 Km). Three members of the team are participating in the half marathon (21 Km): Huw Wakeling, Lianne Baxter and Marta Rikša.

The majority of the team will be taking part in the 10 Km race - Andrew Garner, Dawn and Simon Bowskill, Mark Sapsford; Natalie Price; Vic De Vizio; Artūrs Mičulis; Oskars Urtāns and Roger Clarke. Igors Klapenkovs; Ruth Rajjavejjabhisal; Rhian Phillips and Kate Thomas will joining the 6 Km race.

The founder member of the British Embassy Marathon Team, Chris Short, will be returning to Riga to join us and will run in the 10 Km race.

Between them, our team, will run 229 Km and every cent of your donations will go to the Zvannieki Home to give much needed help to the children in their care. Help us to make a difference. Be part of the Experience!
