Story

Cut out the swimming bit due to timing - perhaps do a marathon Forro dance on the 18th?

Squash is multifaceted social enterprise which has recently moved into a new home on Windsor St in South Liverpool, working with princip[ed and determined skill they have built up their food culture initiatives to the point where they are producing permanent and distinct alterations to the public realm. (see http://squashliverpool.co.uk)

The value and nourishing quality of this street ( to look at and to eat) has been among their core concerns in this venture. and as the first permanent legume beds are established on the street they will be in need of protective and complementary plants and young trees to ensure their permanence.

These protective and complementary plants and trees are what I am hoping you will contribute something toward buying - any surplus will go to the Squash 'Soup it Forward' initiative that strategically distributes access to meals in the Squash Cafe.

I work as a designer, maker and lecturer in Architecture and find that the work manifesting here stands comparison with the most beneficially responsive and engaging examples of strategic neighbourhood development that we like to namecheck in the university.

I also joined a liverpool contingent (including Squash gardeners)to go on a residential Permaculture course near Abella de La Concha this summer where the successful dynamic of small and permanent initiatives like these were linked and described as 'the only basic and comprehensive answer to the colossal harm that our present industrial system in causing to the global environment' Robert A de J Hart

Much as this messianic turn appeals to my expansive nature I like even better to put my body into things, and engage with the landscape in this way. so I had a lot of fun with two pals Boris and Marcus this year putting many of those pieces of wood on the outside of Marianne Heaslips Squash building.

Hoping that in partnership with you and the gardeners of Squash we'll continue to establish the living element of the food street in a way that benefits the corner, the district and the ground beneath.
