Story
I am Cpl Amir Chamling, currently working as an ALDP Instructor, in 85 SQN Command Wing, Worthy Down. I am from The Queen’s Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment (QOGLR). We are an integral part of the RLC, so being a Gurkha logistician, it will be my honour to represent my unit in the RLC 30.

On the 1st of June 2023, The Royal Logistics Corps is celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Corps formation. Hence, to celebrate this significant event, I am organising the 30km Doko challenge charity event to raise funds for the RLC Association Trust (Registered Charity No 1024036).
Conduct of the event:
The team will be formed from the volunteers of DCLPA, Worthy Down. The 30 KM will be divided into 3 legs, each leg of a 10 KM cross-country route. The course will be completed in a relay system carrying 5 KG or 10 KG Doko.
DOKO:
A traditional Nepalese conical-shaped basket, usually hand woven from bamboo, fitted with shoulder straps and a 'namlo' (head strap) to support the load. The baskets are used to carry a whole host of things, from clothing to bricks!
The Famous DOKO Race on the British Gurkhas Selection:
The famous Doko race that potential recruits for the Brigade of Gurkhas have to undertake in Pokhara, Nepal is a tough and gruelling individual effort run up steep inclines and steps in the hills close to the British Army camp in Pokhara.
The potential recruits have to carry 15kg in a Doko basket, which they have individually prepared the day before with help from the Gurkha recruiting staff and run a the course inside a maximum time limit. Nearly all meet the maximum time allowed so it is really important to do well against the other potential recruits.
The RLC Association Trust - The Royal Logistic Corps:
The Royal Logistic Association Trust supports the activities of the RLC the largest Corps in the Army totalling some 11,000 Regular and 4,000 Reserve soldiers. It funds and manages the fraternal activities of the Forming Corps across some 80 branches. Regular and veterans of the RLC, Forming Corps and trained RLC Reservists are eligible for benevolence support. The RLC communicates with the Corps and our associations is through the RLC website, ‘The Sustainer’, the ‘RLC Foundation Review’ plus a total of 10 newsletters. These means of communication are funded by the Trust. Grants are made to support sport and adventurous training, including shared use of the adventurous training lodge (Low Gillerthwaite Field Centre) in the Lake District.
Public Benefits:
Responsibilities extend to the wider community; the Corps Open Day (provided free of charge to the public), The RLC Museum (which receives a grant) and other heritage including close links with the Tower of London and our four dedicated Livery Companies. The Corps funds Freedom Parades, the Silver Stars Parachute Display Team, Bands and Corps of Drums, which perform at a wide range of public events providing closer ties with society in general. The RLC Foundation promotes professional excellence within the Corps.
