    Story

COVID 19 has affected us all and we have all tried our best to muddle on through lockdowns, restrictions and endless bad news. The one thing that all the scientists agree on is that outside is the safest place to be, with the likelihood of transmission dramatically reduced in an outdoor setting.

RMS Markets put every COVID measure in place at both markets yet LBH&F Council decided to 'temporarily' close both Bishops Park & Ravenscourt Park Farmers Markets on 11th January 2021. On 17th March 2021 the Council notified us that both markets could reopen from 17th April 2021, following the opening of all non-essential shops on 12th April. Today (April 10th) we have been advised that both are markets are now permanently closed with immediate effect.

We have loved bringing fresh produce, delicious delicacies and specialist treats to the residents of Hammersmith & Fulham. We have always welcomed the opportunity to give back to the local community through donations to the Friends of Bishops Park, providing free charity stalls and supporting community initiatives. We are proud of supporting a wealth of small businesses, giving our lovely traders the opportunity to make a living, but most of all our entire team has loved serving the residents of our local community.

We would now like to get the Council to reverse this decision. We tried our very best back in January to get the Council to reconsider their decision and despite all the letters from residents and the efforts of both local Councillors and Andy Slaughter MP the Council remained deaf to public opinion. We would now like to take legal action and instruct Robert Griffiths QC to act on our behalf. If you would like to see your markets return we would be really grateful for any donations you feel able to give.

Thank you to our traders for being a great team and a big thank you to our lovely customers for all your support ..... we really hope to be back soon.

Yesterday, 21st June, our legal team filed our counterclaim against H&F Council with the court. The Council now have 14 days in which to file a Defence, which should make interesting reading! We miss all our lovely customers and sincerely hope we will be able to resume serving you all very soon! Thank you for all your continued support.

Thank you to everyone who has donated to our legal fund, we have successfully covered all our legal costs through your generosity. We increased our target fourfold in order to cover LBH&F's costs should we loose this battle. Please do not feel any obligation to increase donations accordingly. We are trying to get as much press/media coverage in order to broaden our audience. If/when we win all further donations will be automatically refunded as we will not incur any further costs - the Council will! Many thanks to you all.

On 5 May, the Council commenced formal proceedings against RMS Markets to make the injunction permanent. They are also seeking to make RMS Markets pay their legal costs. We wish to continue to dispute the Council's conduct as they should be held accountable for their actions. Whilst we have, with your help, funded our legal costs so far we may be forced to pay the Council's legal costs in the future. If we win, all further donations will be refunded. Thank you to everyone for supporting us and helping us stand up for what is right.

Will the council explain why they want to stop the market? Traders didn't suffer enough this year, they need to accept all the caprice from the council?

What are H & F thinking? Closing down these very popular markets just when everything is opening up again, cases are right down, summer is coming and outdoor events are considered safe. Please open!
