Story

Hi, I am George.

I am 10 years old & currently on a 2/3 year waiting list for a Neurodevelopmental Assessment. I want to raise awareness and understanding for Neurodiversity. I decided to challenge myself to run 26 miles in the month of May - you can follow my journey with the hashtag #roarsomerunnergeorge

My initial goal was to raise a total of £350 to purchase The Neurodiversity Umbrella Project for my School, Earlsdon Primary. You can find out more about the Umbrella project here…

https://www.adhdfoundation.org.uk/what-we-do/umbrella-project/

Because of the immense support and kindness I have decided to extend my fundraising for the rest of 2022! I am going to continue to challenge myself with running, raise awareness & share my journey! Thanks to your help I can currently fund 4 local Schools (Earlsdon Primary, Templars Primary, Stivichall Primary & John Gulson Primary) this amazing project for 2023, that raises awareness for Neurodiversity in education & will keep going in the hope that I can provide it for many more…. 🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈

We are thrilled to have installed George's umbrellas in our sensory garden, they look amazing and bring colour and happiness to our school playground. The children loved seeing them up and sitting underneath them when the sun is shining! We are very proud and very lucky to have such an uplifting installation to raise awareness and understanding of neurodiversity. - Mrs Andrews, Earlsdon Primary School.

The Neurodiversity Umbrella Project is created by The ADHD Foundation & is an uplifting visual representation of all the different minds we have here in the UK.

Every Umbrella Project installation helps to raise awareness and understanding of neurodiversity. Thousands of colourful umbrellas are strung together over public spaces, in schools, and in company buildings around the nation. Each display is designed to represent the one in five of us who have a neurodevelopmental condition, such as ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia or Tourette’s syndrome. These conditions fall under the umbrella term of neurodiversity.

We are changing the perception of neurodiverse/neurodivergent people and celebrating all the many strengths that come from thinking differently.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Demsey, George's Dad is doing his own challenge next month to support George, so we wanted to share: ''My Son George, has been fundraising for Neurodiversity Awareness & is now on a mission to support 10 Schools by the end of the year & I would like to help him! I have decided to challenge myself to attempt a 100k run in a day on the 15th October in the hope that I can support George’s amazing efforts! I am asking for you to donate, if you can to George’s page as a motivator for me to keep going! Thanks, Demsey''

This month George is running virtual miles to support a challenge called 'Nothing but Footprints'. His entry into this virtual race by RUNR means that 10 trees will be planted in partnership with the Eden Reforestation Projects. How wonderful is that?! All while running and raising awareness for his own fundraising with The Umbrella Project. He is hoping to complete a total of 20 miles (or more) this month & continue running for Neurodiversity! But can we make it to £2,800 this month and support our 8th School?!?! We think so 🥳🥳🥳

George hit 💯 roarsomemiles! That’s 💯 times George overcame daily obstacles that can challenge him as neurodivergent. Sensory overload is a big factor for George - This occurs when you get more input from your senses & when your brain is overwhelmed, it can enter fight or flight mode making you feel unsafe & stressed. I wanted to share because this is the reality - it may look like all smiles but it’s not always the case. George working through ALL of this on a daily basis to keep going & keep running so that he can support others! Go George
