Story

I wanted to mark what would have been Grandma Betty's 100th birthday with a big charity fundraising effort but unfortunately last year's planned event was cancelled due to the pandemic. Therefore, this year I will be training for my first ever triathlon and have entered The Titan Brecon (Half Ironman) in Wales on June 18th 2022 to raise money for two very special causes. Betty was a strong ambassador for Amnesty International and continued to support them right until the end of her inspiring 99 years. She was kind, selfless and an advocate for human rights, equality and opportunity for all.

The second charity I am supporting is a much smaller local charity called Karis Neighbour Scheme (KNS). I am lucky to have recently joined an incredible team at Karis Medical Centre as a GP in Ladywood, Birmingham where there is a strong emphasis on caring for people holistically and trying to help tackle health inequalities amongst the most vulnerable people in our society. KNS does some amazing work in our local community and I know Betty would be smiling at the thought of much needed money and resources being provided for both KNS and her beloved Amnesty.

Here is a photo of Betty lighting her World Peace Candle on her 97th birthday and below you can visit the websites of the two charities I am fundraising for in her memory :)

Details of the race can be found below. Your support will help motivate me through the countless hours of training needed to complete the 1.2 mile open water swim, followed by a 60 mile bike ride and a 13.1 mile run up and down the Brecon Beacons! Thank you very much for any contribution you are able to make xxx

Titan Brecon Triathlon

Anyone keen to join me for training (including post training drinks) or in Wales for the event itself (with even more post race drinks!) you're more than welcome :)

Having a great time celebrating Betty's birthday at her favourite restaurant until the guy on the table next to us said "Your MUM'S doing great for 98!!!"

Turning 99 in style! :) xxx
