I've raised £1000 to Change the lives of youths in Mathare slum, Kenya by supporting the Mwelu Foundation to buy their first Video Camera!

Mwelu Foundation is an inspiring organising with one goal; to nurture the talented youth in the poorest communities in Nairobi, Kenya. The foundation is a photography and film education centre that provides training, essential life skills and vital financial support to its students. The foundation covers student's school fees and also provides a library to support their curricular studies. The founder Julius Mwelu created this learning space to provide the youth of Mathare slum an opportunity to break the cycle of poverty and violence that exists in their communities.
My name is Robert Newman a British freelance filmmaker. I have been offering my time at the Foundation to assist with teaching and film production needs. I am launching this fundraiser to purchase the foundation with a video camera. The students are extremely talented and very driven to succeed but are held back the inability to access professional equipment. Such access to equipment is key to students learning, which at present, is minimal out of date DSLR equipment which is not designed for video. This camera will increase the student's skills set to a professional standard so the foundation's films gain global exposure. This will not only help with vital funding but also increase the student's chances of employment in a very competitive industry which favours youths from privileged backgrounds. This camera will not only inspire new members but will give unprecedented potential to its current students and teachers.
We kindly ask for your donation to help pay for a Canon C100 digital camera. The students have never used a professional video camera but with your support, this opportunity will be made a reality. We greatly thank you for your kindness and generosity.
