Story
Hi just to let you know that the Fancott Miniature Railway is still up and running but currently in hibernation for the winter. Due to the Covid-19 virus the FMR had limited running during 2020 which has resulted in a significant reduction in revenue. Like everybody running a business, charity, society etc. bills still have to be paid and maintenance still needs to take place so the railway's funds will be further diminished.
We ran Halloween trains to give us additional income and the planned Santa Specials would have added further funds, but this was not to be as Luton/Bedfordshire imposed Covid-19 restrictions and for the safety of passengers we cancelled the event.
For 2021 we have been advised that the Fancott Pub will be reopening in May, assuming restrictions will be lifted, so our normal opening on Mothers Day has been pushed back. Then there is also work to be carried out by the members before the railway can open to the public, restrictions permitting.
Late last year we purchased ballast, sleepers, rail fittings etc to allow the realignment of the track from the tunnel to the bottom loop point, believing this expenditure would be funded by the Santa Specials, as mentioned these were cancelled, resulting in our funds being further reduced. The realignment will allow our engines, especially our steam engine, Davanna, a straight run up the hill, where previously engines have had to slow for the bend. We know how much people have missed seeing the steam engine running and it will be fantastic to have it pulling passenger trains again.
We are also planning on building a Ticket Office/booth at the platform entrance to the station to give shelter from the weather for our train staff and also provide social distancing for our customers.
In order to keep the FMR up and running we are asking if you can spare us a few pounds or the price of your summer train fares? Every pound will help us keep the FMR up and running and in tip top condition for our passengers and supporters. We realise that things are very difficult in the current situation but we are trying to keep the FMR open for the better times to come.
Look forward to seeing you soon!!!
Stay safe
