Story

I'm carrying out sponsored walks to raise money for a charity that is close to my heart; the amazing Air cadets at 126(City of Derby) Squadron. They receive no funding for their oversea's trips where they not only represent themselves, their Squadron and the ATC but also City of Derby. With the help and support of my son, Ashley (until recently a cadet and now a civilian instructor at the squadron), plus other family members I am going to be attempting a series of challenging walks, with a 25kg bergen, (military backpack) in order to to raise funds for the Cadets and the Squadron. I have completed the first walk; The Monsal trail, starting at Bakewell in Derbyshire and back a distance of18 miles. We raised a fantastic £285 from work colleagues, friends and sponsors and I send my sincere thanks. Walks we will be attempting are The High Peak trail, Tissington trail-approximately 28 miles and The Camel trail: Wenford Bridge to Padstow- approximately 18 miles. I'm looking to raise £2000 that will all go towards providing assistance to Cadets who want to join in with overseas trips. These are centered in France and Belgium in remembrance of those who fell in the 1st and 2nd world wars defending our freedom. For some Cadets these trips may be the first time that they have been abroad, which makes our fundraising even more important, any extra will be put towards funding equipment we require making the Cadets time at the squadron more enjoyable, fun, educational and to inspire our young people for their future. Our Cadets are an amazing bunch of young people who when leaving at the end of their time with the Squadron go to successful and fulfilling careers in all walks of life knowing that the training, support and friendships they have developed shape them into strong, confident and responsible adults. Finally, I thank everyone who reads this and donates to our cause. Thank you.
