Story
Robin Hood Primary School PTA is raising money for a defibrillator at our school but we would like to make this accessible to the local community too by placing the device outside the school.
We are hoping to raise the funds from everyone who lives or works in our community who could benefit from this life saving piece of equipment.
You need to be within 600 meters of a device to be able to access it in time for the impact of this device to work. Our nearest public access defibrillator device is 1.8km from the school.
What is a cPAD?
cPADs are defibrillators placed in public places, accessible 24 hours a day. The defibrillators (a small electronic device which gives an electric shock to the heart) are placed in a locked cabinet, when a caller rings 999 they can be sent to that box. The device can be used while the ambulance is on route increasing chances of survival following a cardiac arrest.
Why would I need one?
Sudden cardiac failure is the leading cause of premature death in the UK, but many lives can be saved with immediate treatment. The quicker defibrillation can be given the greater the chances of successful resuscitation are.
Basic life support and access to early defibrillation give the best chances of survival for a patient who suffers a cardiac arrest. Yorkshire Ambulance Service encourages communities to install cPADS (Community Public Access Devices) to help increase the chances of survival in the event of a cardiac arrest.
The £1600 we need to raise will pay for the defibrillator and cupboard, plus installation and maintenance.
Everyone in our community can benefit from this so please can everyone consider funding it. Let's show some community spirit and make this happen together. Please give whatever you can, £1 from every home and business in Robin Hood would be more than enough.
