Story

We are the Rochdale & District Fusiliers Association and we are fundraising to help members develop a programme of events to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the amalgamation to form the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. The Fusiliers were originally formed in 1674 and initially named “Fuzileers” after the Fusil, the modern musket of the day. The modern regiment was formed in 1968 from four English Fusilier Regiments, seeing service in Northern Ireland, Cyprus, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan.

The combined Victoria Crosses of the Fusiliers and its ancestor regiments total fifty five, of particular note are those in the first world war at Gallipoli when the famous “Six VCs before breakfast” were awarded to the Lancashire Fusiliers on 25th April 1915

The current Rochdale and District Branch was formed from local Fusiliers returning from WW 2. Our youngest member is 26 and our oldest is 85. The combined total of service amounts to over 500 years. Events we organise will also be an opportunity to promote our local branch and acknowledge our sponsors through media releases. Promotion is extremely important to us as we wish to ensure that serving and ex serving Fusiliers from the area join us. The Rochdale Branch is fully constituted (which is available on request) We have an elected committee, an AGM and a bank account and our members would be delighted to receive your help.

Being a member is important for the psychological wellbeing of all our members. We ensure that we look after each other and also wish to reach out to veterans who may feel alone or forgotten.
