    Story

Jordan has Proteus Syndrome, this is an extremely rare genetic mutation. Proteus is characterized by overgrowth of the bones, skin, and other tissues. Organs and tissues affected by the disease grow out of proportion to the rest of the body .Proteus syndrome is a rare condition with an incidence of less than 1 in 1 million people worldwide. Only a few hundred affected individuals have been reported in the medical literature. Jordan has had more than 15 surgeries to try and combat the above affects.

Proteus took away Jordan's ability to walk unaided by the age of 4; it has caused many other medical difficulties, one being a major spinal deformity resulting in two 10 hour surgeries to correct it and a full year of intense and painful rehabilitation. The other predominantly affecting his left leg, after undergoing multiple surgeries to try stop the progressive overgrowth, unsuccessfully; Jordan made the very brave decision to have a through the knee amputation at the age of 17 in July this year (2017). Jordan has many dreams and aspirations like most 17 year old's and by raising the necessary funds to get a state of the art prosthetic (The Genium X3) by Ottobock and specialist sockets by Sigil-In. it will make his aspirations and goals more achievable. You will see from his profile picture he has an amazing sense of humour!

I will be riding 500km over 4 days in Japan, starting in Nikko and finishing in Ichinoseki from June 14th-18th 2018 to raise money to help with the purchase of a state of the art prosthetic leg for Jordan. It will be a challenging event as I've not ridden that far for 4 consecutive days previously! All monies raised will be added to Jordan's fundraising and all travel costs will be paid for by myself. Any donations will be very gratefully received. The ultimate cost of the leg is £75,000 which is a significant amount of money and I hope that I will be able to add to the growing amount of donations that are being accumulated.

Well the 500km in 4 days ride across Northern Japan has been completed! A tough ride through beautiful countryside and sightings of snakes and monkeys along the way! Weather ranged from boiling to possibly the coldest I've ever been on a bike (Mount Bandai). But completed it has been and we have managed to raise a magnificent £13,121, which is way beyond my expectations. I will be speaking with Jordan soon and we will be posting an update on his continued progress. Thank you all again!

A massive thanks to everyone who continues to support Jordan, its quite incredible and we've made progress beyond our expectations! The ride looms ever nearer and whilst Jordan is focusing on his A levels I will update you with some of the preparation for what has just become a larger challenge! It's larger as I've been talked into cycling up from Tokyo to Kinugawa Onsen for the start of the ride..day Zero allegedly! A mere extra 180kms!
