Roger - Husband of Pat - His story: Many of you will know I lost my wife Pat last year after 45 years of marriage. The time came about 3 weeks ago to do something useful with Pat's clothes. This will be a long job. I heard about St. Chad's Sanctuary in Birmingham and I went to have a look. St. Chad's Sanctuary is next to St. Chad's Cathedral near the city centre and is run by a nun who wears "civvies". It is open to anyone, Catholics, Protestants, Jews, Muslims, black, white, brown. Many of the people are refugees with nothing, no food, no clothes, nothing. St. Chad's Sanctuary helps them in every way, teaches them English, gives advice, dental treatment. I asked the nun what she needed, half used toiletries, half used toilet rolls, sanitary towels, face cloths - the list was endless. I rang my mate, a heathen like me, a Quantity Surveyor was deals in money. Within ten minutes he sent me money. My daughter and I went to the Poundshop and Tesco and spent the lot, 10 sanitary towels for 15p (yes 10 for 15p), toothpaste at 25p a tube, tomatoes, rice - the list goes on. See the photo of what we bought. I rifled my loft, bags, clothes, old towels, clean second hand underpants. I can get 2 litres of orange juice for a £1, a bottle of bleach for 50p, a face cloth for 40p, a kilo of rice for 35p, a sanitary towel for 1.5p (yes 1.5p). I need money now, not tomorrow now, these people have nothing. You won't get a receipt, you will get our thanks, but I will use the money you donate and I will use it now. Roger Cotterill
