Maggies cancer charity aberdeen

A charity chosen that was close to Ron's heart for the later stages of his life.

He found the centre incredibly supportive, especially their welcoming and friendly approach that he enjoyed multiple times a week. He loved the chats over a cup of tea, having his cheeky banter with the staff and attending the many amazing activities they offered to all. Yoga, qigong and use of their library are some of the many.

He felt like this was a safe space to be listened to, whilst being surrounded by professionals and relating to others that used the centre, sharing and learning experiences.

Never stop learning, never stop loving.

Guarana street band

Ron has been drumming for more than 25 years and to him, it was more than just keeping a beat. It was something anyone could do, pick up a pair of sticks in any language, any age or ability. Music unites us all.

Back in 2003, Ron Bird teamed up with Daran Gill to embark on a journey that would be like no other. Creating fabulous memories and even greater friends and opportunities for many people. Rons passion was to see the enjoyment others got from taking part in a band that was family.

Starting as a staple of the community, little did Ron know he would become one of the staples in community music for the northeast of Scotland. Community music is for everyone something that Ron always made sure of!

Thousands of performances and workshops have been done with enough pin holes in the map to make the UK sink.

Ron put alot of time and his energy into making Guarana stand for many reasons- the brightest in Aberdeen and loudest through marches, protests and every gig with his enthusiasm that keeping everyone else going.

All of this would never have been possible if the Great Ron Bird wasn't at the steering wheel.

He's left a legacy behind that we will continue to hop, skip and jump, shouting his name all the way and preaching his great morals.

What he stood for was love, peace and unity and he introduced that to a lot of people through the time they spent with him.

Ron, we thank you and are forever grateful for this life you have created for a lot of people. You are truly an inspiration and role model to many.

A bonny day for a bird to fly☮️❤️

Till we drum again!🥁
