Story

Helen, Trevor, Mark, Louise & Harriet will be cycling Coast2Coast at the end of July, 170 miles in 3 days! (this is our first time on this adventure, except Louise, so all feeling a little nervous!) We are doing this for Ryley as he is a main part in both our families life's. We want to raise money to help towards his rehab he has currently started in Leicester and hopefully more. Here's a little bit about him below.

Ryley was a happy, healthy sporty 14 year old lad, attending Bourne Grammar School, he played football for Blackstones u14 team and he also ran competitively for Nene Valley Harriers.
On Friday 20th May after returning home from playing football in the park with his friends Ryley suffered a massive seizure. He was rushed to Peterborough hospital then transferred to Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge where they found he had a massive bleed on his brain caused by an AVM* .
Ryley underwent surgery to stem the bleeding on his brain and remove part of his skull to allow the brain to swell, he was then put into an induced coma and monitored and cared for on PICU (intensive care) at Addenbrooke's for 5 weeks.
Ryley's brain has been left with considerable damage due to a prolonged period of oxygen starvation,he now has to learn the things we take for granted all over again (eat, walk, talk to name just a few) Ryley will need further surgery on his brain to treat the AVM to prevent another bleed, also his skull will be replaced with a titanium plate in the near future.
Ryley and his mum spent 12 weeks in Addenbrooke's Hospital before being moved to Sunflowers which is a children's care home. He will stay there until a place becomes available at Tadworth Brain Injury Rehabilitation centre, run by The Children’s Trust in Surrey, which we are hoping will be at the end of September.
We are raising money for any equipment that he may need during his rehabilitation and for his future as we still do not know what his long term needs are going to be.
