Story

ROSALIND:

Rosalind is a lovely little 11 year old, smiley, kind, resilient and bubbly. She's interested in the world, yet frustratingly for Rosalind, she can't express her love, opinions, and ideas verbally.

Rosalind has RETT Syndrome, a debilitating and progressive genetic condition causing signals the brain sends to the body to tell it what to do, to misfire. This means Rosalind has to use a wheelchair, needs to be fed through her stomach to top up the amount she manages to eat and drink, and being non-verbal as well as unable to control her hands to learn sign language.

Tim & Richard are walking the Cleveland Way, 109 miles from Helmsley to Filey, from 29/06 to raise awareness for RETT, a largely unknown, unsupported, profoundly debilitating condition, but also to raise funds directly for Rosalind. Additionally, Tim & Charles are running the Hornsea Half 25/05. Plus other activities will be planned. As well as her increasing medical and physical needs, much which can't be sought through the NHS, the aim is for Rosalind to buy an "Eye Gaze" which tracks her eyes looking at a computer screen and speaks her words. Rosalind has had trials using an eye gaze and it is clear it will greatly improve her quality of life giving her the voice she craves.

FUNDING STEPS:

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast & secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, we will withdraw funds directly to Rosalind and her family. An efficient way to donate, saving time & costs. If you would prefer to donate offline see us as we also have old school Sponsor Forms.

WHAT NEXT:

Spurred on by Rosalind’s fabulous personality, Tim & Rich are planning the Walk over a week. An itinerary will be published here, and updates. Prior to this, Charles is helping running the Hornsea Half in May for the cause. Anything you can give, however small, WILL make a difference to Rosalind and raise that big smile on her face.
