I am participating in an expedition in the summer of 2017 to Costa Rica. I will be travelling with two teachers and a small group of students from my school through the company Outlook Expeditions. The expedition is costing just over £4000 it is therefore critical that I fundraise this money, I currently have a target of £2000. As part of my fundraising I am partaking in the Bear Grylls 10K Survival Challenge at Winton House on September 3rd, this will be my first fundraising event.

The expedition will last 28 days and will involve a visit to a sloth sanctuary, a 4-5 day trek through the Corcovado National Park, a hike up Cerro Chirripó – the highest peak in Costa Rica and a visit to a turtle sanctuary. The purpose of visiting these places of concentrated wildlife and sanctuaries is to see and raise awareness of these endangered species and what us young adults can do to preserve the world and its many habitats. By going to these sanctuaries I will have a hands on encounter with these amazing animals, being involved in the day to day work that is critical in running these inspirational sanctuaries. The expedition will be both physically and mentally challenging, with constant hikes and hard work testing the limits of myself.

I have a passion for wildlife and the geography of the world, which has inspired me to pursue a career in zoology and ethology, and I am currently studying the subjects which will allow me to become a biologist/geologist of the world. Of course Costa Rica is my first major step and this is why I have raised money to help pay for this once in a lifetime opportunity through the Bear Grylls Survival Challenge.
